potato jesus MARION COUNTY, Florida - You have to remember, Florida has had the Lottery for quite a number of years. Before the huge powerball payouts across the south, Florida was still paying out 7 million a week. That’s the same feeling one lucky church goer got this week when she discovered a rotten potato. The rot just happen to send her a sign.

Renee says she had been looking for an excuse to get out of making potato salad. “I was hesitant about making the potato salad because Sister Frankie makes the potato salad at church and I said lord if it’s not for me to make potato salad then send me a sign.”

“That’s Jesus on the Cross. Just looking at it I don’t have to convince,” said Renee.

And taking a closer look she saw the cross with Jesus in the middle. “It’s remarkable. Even when I cut the good part off the cross ended up being shaped like a tomb from long ago.”

Rock Hard JesusTampa - If you’re heard about Jesus being sighted in some random inanimate object, chances are it happened in Florida. You might think I’m kidding, but remember the image of Jesus in a grilled cheese sandwich that was sold on Ebay to The Golden Palace? Miami. The image of a Virgin Mary in a bank window? Clearwater. Now we have Jesus in a piece of Granite.

A granite dealer who noticed an unusual image in a rock slab plans to sell it on eBay.

The man — who does not want to be identified — says the slab depicts Jesus on the cross, and blue areas at the bottom could be angels praying.

Miss Florida Chances are you’ve seen celebrity mug shots at some point. For the most part they show an absolute low for that celeb, looking like they just rolled out of bed. Add on drunk and you have most mug shots in Florida. This one is a little different though.

The Florida woman seen in the photos below has had her mug shot snapped five times over the past 14 months (drunk driving, pot possession, probation violation, etc.) and each picture is suitable for framing. The frequent arrestee is 20 and has alternately listed her occupation as “bartender” and “dancer” when busted. And based on police ID photos of her ink, she appears to be a tattoo enthusiast.

I’ve been slacking on the Florida posts recently. To be honest I haven’t heard as much national focus on Florida as last year — right around the Mark Foley scandal. You know what’s right around the corner though? The January primary! We’re estimating a 98% chance of problems and look forward to posting about them.

Also, if you’d be interested in joining up the FlorIdiots team please fill out the contact form. Basically we’re looking for other editors that can post occasionally and comment on random Florida stories in the news. Nothing too serious, but all editors will be sharing any profits generated from this site.

Orlando, Florida - Need to get rid of that old Rocket Launcher or BFG that’s just taking up room in your shed? Orlando is the place to go!

“I didn’t know what to do with it, so I brought it here,” explained the man, who said he found it in a shed he tore down last week. “I took it to three dumps to try to get rid of it, and they told me to get lost.”

Police spokeswoman Sgt. Barbara Jones commented, “I tell you, you never know what you’re going to get.”

“Somebody took really good care of this,” said Williams, holding a .308-caliber M1-A Springfield rifle worth about $1,500. “I’d bet a body part this was never used in a crime.”

Orlando, Florida - Forgive the lack of posts lately. It hasn’t been for lack of stupidity, I can assure you that. Just when you think you’re safe reading autoblog however I came across yet another gem from our great state.

Chances are that if your “to-do” list for a given day includes picking up your new Lamborghini Murcielago, things are going pretty well. After all, taking delivery of a new Lambo generally indicates one has some serious coin and that the good life is being lived. But the trappings of the good life can be fraught with danger, as the Murci can be merciless to its pilot if not treated with the proper amount of respect.

Deerfield Beach, Florida - We all know that Florida is the lightening capital of the world, but how can you pass up a good dive by the lightning-light?

Sanford, Florida - Ever mooned someone on the Interstate for having cut you off? Well guess what; you’re a sex offender! Go register now, we’ll wait.

A family driving west on Interstate 4 in a silver Mercedes-Benz on Sunday evening made the men in the black Chevrolet Tahoe mad.

The Mercedes had cut them off, the Tahoe’s driver later told a Seminole County deputy, so front-seat passenger John Thomas Taylor dropped his pants and mooned the family, including their 14-year-old son, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.

Taylor, 21, was arrested and hauled to jail, accused of committing a lewd and lascivious act in the presence of a child younger than 16.

Florida - One of Floridas biggest claims to idiocracy is the 2000 presidential election. Such a monumental failure which, as it turned out, probably cost more than a few people their lives may actually be corrected. Now if only people were smart enough to fill in their ballots correctly…

Oh, Florida, how we love to make you a punchline.

Florida is spending $26 million to replace the electronic machines with the optical scan type. Electronic machines will still be available for handicapped individuals as a result of Federal law mandating their use in elections. The eVoting machines cost Pinellas County alone $14 million in 2001 and there are a total of 15 counties in Florida using these machines. All of them will be scrapped (hopefully not to hackers) and replaced.

Once again, in Canada you get a piece of paper and mark an X with a pencil. How freaking hard do we have to make voting?

Brooksville, Florida - Right along with the guy on house arrest that drove to the courthouse, here’s another genius.

Richard A. Brockman of Brooksville drove to the Sheriff’s Office at 9 a.m. to register as a felon, which is a requirement of a court-ordered probation from his May 4 conviction on fraud charges.

During the registration, deputies smelled alcohol on the 48-year-old’s breath and noted he was slurring his speech. Brockman acknowledged he was on pain medication but denied drinking any alcohol, reports state.

In the car deputies found four 16-ounce cans of beer in the front passenger seat, reports state. Two of the cans were empty and two others unopened were cold to the touch. A receipt showed the beer was purchased about 45 minutes before arriving at the Sheriff’s Office.
